QUALIFICATIONS:
I hold a Bachelor of Music in Voice from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln School of Music, May 1996. My expertise includes Art Song, Opera, Music Theater, Jazz, Sacred Solo Song, and Pop/Contemporary. I have been teaching private voice and piano since 1996.
PHILOSOPHY:
I believe that the study of music encourages well-rounded development. Private voice and piano lessons should foster in each student a joy of learning, an enthusiasm for growth, and an increased level of creativity. Each student has something unique to offer. My purpose is to aid each of my students in developing the confidence needed to communicate effectively through the art of voice/piano. This confidence can be found through consistent study and application of proper vocal/keyboard technique, daily exercise of the voice, and/or piano skills and regular performance
experiences.
OVERVIEW:
I offer instruction to students of all ages and experience levels. Instruction consists of weekly private lessons, each 30, 45, or 60 minutes in length. I also offer a drop-in rate for those who desire only occasional instruction. Group Classes will be held in place of individual lessons a few times throughout the year. These classes are 60 minutes
in length, and will be held in my home or at a convenient local space at a date and time that works for the majority of students. Group classes give students the opportunity to sing and play for each other and to build rapport with their peers in the studio. I also offer a weekly group music theater workshop.
A
Studio Recital
will be held on an afternoon/evening in the spring. Please inform me of any known conflicts; I don’t want anyone to miss this special event. An exact date, time, and location for recital will be announced as soon as possible.
*Students will be notified as other performance or audition opportunities arise.
TEACHER’S ROLE
: My responsibilities include providing appropriate material for growth at each lesson, being prompt and prepared at lesson time, and guiding each student to weekly improvement.
STUDENT’S ROLE
: The student is responsible for preparation of lesson material through regular study and practice. I expect students to recognize their lesson time as a time to focus on vocal/piano study. Students and parents must be committed to the prompt and consistent attendance of scheduled lessons and events. It is also vital that studio members read and
save letters of information that I send out regarding lessons, recitals, etc. You are responsible for that information. Students are responsible for purchasing music as needed.
SNOW POLICY
: I am available for lessons on snow days. If you cannot safely make it to my home, please call and cancel. A make-up is not guaranteed, but I will try to work you in as I am able to do so. Please remind me if you want to schedule a make-up lesson.
